The Senior Center is serving a hot lunch for seniors age 55 years and up from Monday to Friday at 12noon.  Mitchell's Restaurant is the caterer and a big thank you to Big Y for their generous dessert donations!  Share your noon time meal with old friends as well as making some new ones.  Reservations with payment must be made at least 3 business days in advance before 10:00am. Cancellations should be called in as early as possible. A vegetarian option will be available for those with religious or dietary restrictions with advance notice. Menus are available in the Senior Center lobby, in the current issue of The Compass newsletter and below.  To register for lunch please call 860-258-2786 or sign up online at registrations.rhparkrec.org.  We cannot accommodate walk ins for lunch.NEW:       +Low sugar fruit cups are available for diabetics.  Please alert staff when checking in for lunch     +We are excited to announce that we are transitioning from paper products to melamine plates, cups and silverware in our dining room.  There are three stream trash receptacles in the lunch room which will give us the ability to recycle and compost.  Please be patient while we work out this new system.  We are excited for real plates, forks and knives!!!Cost for lunch:  $5.00 for Rocky Hill residents and $10.00 for non-residents.  Being a member of the Senior Center does not reduce the fee.Our daily senior meal is subsidized by the Town of Rocky Hill and the fees we collect do not cover the expense of the program.  If you are able to contribute more for your own lunch or would like to donate towards a wonderful cause, please feel free to give any amount.  Your generosity is appreciated. DONATIONS FOR LUNCH PROGRAM:Angela Christadore, Elaine Jones and Michael SheltoJumping Cow Ice Cream, ice cream and whipped cream

HEPATITIS C SCREENING & PRESENTATION-Monday, May 20: Screening: 12:30-1:00pm Each participant will first have their Hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibody testing administered, via a quick finger stick. A HCV (Hepatitis C virus) antibody test is used to find out if someone has ever been infected with the hepatitis C virus. The HCV antibody test looks for antibodies to the hepatitis C virus in blood. Presentation: 1:00-2:00pm As we await results (about a half hour), our public health nurses will give a presentation about what hepatitis is, how it is transmitted and how to avoid contracting the virus. If the results are positive, the nurses will educate the participant and help link them to further testing and treatment. Please bring your insurance card.  Specify when registering if you would like the screening, presentation, or both. Sponsored by Central CT Health District

Tai Chi is a relaxing exercise comprised of a series of slow movements that give a sense of balance, clarity and relaxation.  Tai Chi helps to relax the body and mind, improves flexibility, and helps regulate the breath to create more vitality.  It is practiced in many countries as a daily exercise and relaxation regimen.  An 8 movement Qigong set is also taught along with the 24 form.  Focus will be on shifting the weight between steps and coordination of movements.  A short standing meditation will be offered at the end of each class if time permits.Class will be held on Monday from 1:00-2:00pm:March 25-May 20 (no class 5/6) and June 3-July 29, no class 7/1Fee:  $36 members and $46 non-members Instructor:  Cynthia Hoag

Looking to become more fit or stay active?  Want to work out at a pace that works for you?  If you enjoy great music and international rhythms, you will love Zumba Gold!  This program was developed specifically for young-at-heart, fun loving adults. Classes will include detailed instructions, which will include comprehensive drawing/composition/shading/structure. Introduction to acrylics and watercolor techniques, with an emphasis on creating forms, shadow and sketching techniques. Students will be given weekly assignments to practice drawing forms. After each session, instructor will give out worksheets reviewing the lesson of the day.  On final make-up session, select and mount students' art work samples to be displayed in the Rocky Hill Senior Center Lobby.Material fee of $18-$20 to be paid directly to the instructor.  This fee includes: newsprint pad, box charcoal pencils, box charcoal sticks, pastel and acrylic paints and canvas boards.  Please bring a smock or t-shirt, and wipes for your hands.  Class will be held on Tuesday, April 16-June 4 from 1:00-3:30pm.  Fee:  $60 for members and $75 for non members.Instructor: Ed Rosado

Join this fun group that plays Setback on Tuesdays from 1:00-3:00pm.  Open to all Senior Center members and facilitated by volunteers.  Program is free, but there is a nominal fee to play each week.  Pre-registration is required.

Classes will include detailed instructions, which will include comprehensive drawing/composition/shading/structure. Introduction to acrylics and watercolor techniques, with an emphasis on creating forms, shadow and sketching techniques. Students will be given weekly assignments to practice drawing forms. After each session, instructor will give out worksheets reviewing the lesson of the day.  On final make-up session, select and mount students' art work samples to be displayed in the Rocky Hill Senior Center Lobby.Material fee of $18-$20 to be paid directly to the instructor.  This fee includes: newsprint pad, box charcoal pencils, box charcoal sticks, pastel and acrylic paints and canvas boards.  Please bring a smock or t-shirt, and wipes for your hands.  Class will be held on Tuesday, April 16-June 4 from 1:00-3:30pm.  Fee:  $60 for members and $75 for non members.Instructor: Ed Rosado

Spread Your Wings and Roar ART-ventures (Grades K-5)This all-new art-rageous program is truly like a trip to the zoo. Design Stuffed Teddy Bears, create Owl Paintings on canvas, and sculpt Clay Peacocks with zany feathers. Color real Rubber Duckies, paint Ceramic Bunny Banks, and make Wooden Animal Puzzles in the style of Oaxacan alebrijes. Even travel back in time to paint Dancing Dinosaurs with watercolors. We’ll also pop into the zoo food court to create Mixed Media Sandwich Collages and Pasta Relief Clay Tiles and visit the photo booth to make Cardboard Mustache Masks and draw Minion Self-Portraits. On the way out, we’ll stop at the gift shop to design Sticker Resist T-shirts, decoupage large Paper Mache Letters, and build wacky Mix-and-Match Character Blocks. Tai Chi is a relaxing exercise comprised of a series of slow movements that give a sense of balance, clarity and relaxation.  Tai Chi helps to relax the body and mind, improves flexibility, and helps regulate the breath to create more vitality.  It is practiced in many countries as a daily exercise and relaxation regimen.  An 8 movement Qigong set is also taught along with the 24 form.  Focus will be on shifting the weight between steps and coordination of movements.  A short standing meditation will be offered at the end of each class if time permits.Class will be held on Monday from 1:00-2:00pm:March 25-May 20 (no class 5/6) and June 3-July 29, no class 7/1Fee:  $36 members and $46 non-members Instructor:  Cynthia Hoag

The Senior Center is serving a hot lunch for seniors age 55 years and up from Monday to Friday at 12noon.  Mitchell's Restaurant is the caterer and a big thank you to Big Y for their generous dessert donations!  Share your noon time meal with old friends as well as making some new ones.  Reservations with payment must be made at least 3 business days in advance before 10:00am. Tai Chi is a relaxing exercise comprised of a series of slow movements that give a sense of balance, clarity and relaxation.  Tai Chi helps to relax the body and mind, improves flexibility, and helps regulate the breath to create more vitality.  It is practiced in many countries as a daily exercise and relaxation regimen.  An 8 movement Qigong set is also taught along with the 24 form.  Focus will be on shifting the weight between steps and coordination of movements.  A short standing meditation will be offered at the end of each class if time permits.Class will be held on Monday from 1:00-2:00pm:March 25-May 20 (no class 5/6) and June 3-July 29, no class 7/1Fee:  $36 members and $46 non-members Instructor:  Cynthia Hoag

Looking to become more fit or stay active?  Want to work out at a pace that works for you?  If you enjoy great music and international rhythms, you will love Zumba Gold!  This program was developed specifically for young-at-heart, fun loving adults. It's a dance fitness class that exercises your brain and body.  The best part is that no experience is required.  Required:  Athletic sneakers with a rubber sole.  Recommended:  Dress in comfortable clothes, and bring a water bottle and sweat towel.  Tuesday and Thursday dates: April 30-June 6, no class 5/7 & 5/9June 11-July 18, no class 6/27 & 7/4Time:  9:30-10:15am Fee:  $48 for members, $58 for non membersInstructor:  Karen Chorney

The Senior Center is serving a hot lunch for seniors age 55 years and up from Monday to Friday at 12noon.  Mitchell's Restaurant is the caterer and a big thank you to Big Y for their generous dessert donations!  Share your noon time meal with old friends as well as making some new ones.  Reservations with payment must be made at least 3 business days in advance before 10:00am. Cancellations should be called in as early as possible. A vegetarian option will be available for those with religious or dietary restrictions with advance notice. Menus are available in the Senior Center lobby, in the current issue of The Compass newsletter and below.  To register for lunch please call 860-258-2786 or sign up online at registrations.rhparkrec.org.  We cannot accommodate walk ins for lunch.NEW:       +Low sugar fruit cups are available for diabetics.  Please alert staff when checking in for lunch     +We are excited to announce that we are transitioning from paper products to melamine plates, cups and silverware in our dining room.  There are three stream trash receptacles in the lunch room which will give us the ability to recycle and compost.  Please be patient while we work out this new system.  We are excited for real plates, forks and knives!!!Cost for lunch:  $5.00 for Rocky Hill residents and $10.00 for non-residents.  Being a member of the Senior Center does not reduce the fee.Our daily senior meal is subsidized by the Town of Rocky Hill and the fees we collect do not cover the expense of the program.  If you are able to contribute more for your own lunch or would like to donate towards a wonderful cause, please feel free to give any amount.  Your generosity is appreciated. DONATIONS FOR LUNCH PROGRAM:Angela Christadore, Elaine Jones and Michael SheltoJumping Cow Ice Cream, ice cream and whipped cream
