The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies, and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illness until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel takes over. This class is fully in-person and will take place at Rocky Hill High School Pool.
Prerequisites: You must be a proficient swimmer and be at least 15 years old by the final scheduled class. At the first in-person class you must successfully complete a swimming pre-test in order to continue with the course. The pre-test involves laps using front crawl and breaststroke, along with a treading challenge, and a brick retrieval from the bottom of the pool. If you are unable to complete the required swim test you will receive a full refund.
Attendance at all sessions is mandatory.
