*Chopin, The Poet of the Piano

He wrote virtually nothing but piano music, but Chopin is highly regarded as any composer of the 19th century.  His music lies at the very heart of the classical piano repertoire and beloved across the world.

There are two faces to his music and to his personality.  With all its melodic expansiveness and poetic freedom, underneath the surface Chopin built rock solid structures that sustain and unify each piece.  Likewise Chopin the man combines two national characters that suffuse his personality and his music:  the heartfelt longing and heroic dreams of his Polish roots, and the sophistication, logic and brilliance of France, his adopted home.

David Stein will look at the life of this fascinating and original man and explore some of his music in depth.  We will avoid the technical complexities so no prior experience or knowledge of music is necessary.
