Practice: Every team practices 1 hour per week. Day and time depends on team placement. Practice time slots are Monday-Friday between 5:00 and 9:00pm and will start the week of December 2nd.
Team Placement: Teams will be created with the help of each division's coaches with intentions of making them as balanced as possible. To do this, we have scheduled evaluation periods for staff AND COACHES to properly evaluate each child's skill levels. There are no guarantees for teams, coaches, or practice nights. Team placement is final.
Clinics: A clinic will be held for all players on Saturday, December 7th OR Sunday, December 8th at Moser School. Clinics will primarily focus on basic skills fundamentals and rules before we kick off the season! Team coaches should plan to attend and will help coordinate skill drills and stations, with direction of the Clinic Coordinator, Luke Granato. This is a great opportunity for coaches to pick up some new techniques and methods for running more efficient and productive practices.
Clinic times are below and are scheduled by division:
3rd-4th grade boys – Saturday, December 7th from 8:30-10:00am
3rd-5th grade girls – Saturday, December 7th from 10:15-11:45am
7th-8th grade boys – Saturday, December 7th from 12:00-1:30pm
5th-6th grade boys – Sunday, December 8th from 8:30-10:00am
6th-8th grade girls – Sunday, December 8th from 10:00-11:30am
Games: Games will be held Saturday, January 4th - March 1st. There WILL be games on 2/15. Each team will play 9 games, plus 1 scrimmage on December 21st. The schedule will be available on our website in December. Games canceled for inclement weather may not be made up.
Coaches: This program runs on the volunteerism of our coaches. No prior basketball experience is needed. We provide you with the tools to learn what kinds of drills to run at practices and how to teach the sport. Coaching is about more than knowing the game. The ability to teach age appropriate athletic skills and the value of a team is equally important as being aware of the needs of the children participating in sports. We accept all coaches that are willing to dedicate just a couple of hours a week to give our youth a fun, safe, and memorable experience. Volunteer coaches are needed for the Dunkers Basketball Clinic for grades 1-2 and the Youth Basketball League for grades 3-8. There is always a need for coaches.
All new and returning coaches should follow the steps found in the Coach's Corner, which can be found by clicking the link below. There will be a mandatory coach's meeting for coaches involved in grades 3-8 on Tuesday, November 12th at 6:30pm. Coaches will notify parents/players of team placement between November 13th and 17th.
To show our appreciation for your willingness to coach, all volunteer coaches will be issued a $110.00 credit on their account at the end of season provided they have completed the season and are in good standing with the Department. All coaches also receive a warm-up jacket.
